»Entrée«
– almost everyone will find their way inside through this open door.
The youth association of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra (RCO) was founded in 1994. It originated from the idea of involving
young people into the activities taking place at the Concertgebouw and
does not only intend to arouse young people’s interest in classical
music in general – a membership with the Entrée club offers
quite a few other advantages. Besides offering the privilege of reduced
prices for concert tickets, Entrée organises a number of innovative
projects every year. The youth club takes the zeitgeist of its audience
into account and tries to open up new territories in the appreciation
of classical music, world music and jazz. Everyone aged up to 30 years
can become a member of which there are already 5,500. However, not only
young people are to be attracted to the concert halls – Entrée
also offers a creative platform for amateurs from the age of 8. With its
training programme called Groot Entrée Orkest, the association,
managed by volunteers and students, organises the encounter of youths
and musicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. About 80 children
can enjoy master classes held by members of the RCO and ultimately play
on the stage of the main concert hall.
Designed by architect Dolf van Gendt, the Concertgebouw was opened in April 1888. Two halls provide space for 2,400 visitors. More than 800 concerts take place in the Main Hall and the Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw and are visited by over 800,000 music lovers each year. The Concertgebouw is a member of the European Concert Hall Organisation, ECHO.
