A
world-class orchestra works with a comprehensive school under the same
roof: In 2007, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen ventured this unusual
step and set up its »Future Lab« in the Bremen-Ost Comprehensive
School. Since then, musicians, teachers and students alike have been closely
cooperating to put a pioneering idea into practice: overcoming social
barriers through musical creativity. The jointly developed projects are
intended to noticeably improve the living conditions in this disadvantaged
area in the long term. The Future Lab is a meeting place for people of
different social and cultural backgrounds. They all have the same target:
overcome boundaries, enter into relationships and create something new
from it. Music as a catalyst plays an important part in the process. To
achieve a sustainable effect of the Future Lab, processes of social change
with long-term effects – e. g. in the areas of individualisation,
education or the world of work – are identified and actively integrated
into the Lab environment. Meanwhile this work is bearing fruit: With the
acclaimed project »The Melody of Life«, the members of the
ensemble and the students – combining their efforts enthusiastically
– fill »their« school with the sound of music.
Founded in 1980, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been based in Bremen since 1992. The orchestra is organized as a company in which the musicians are the only shareholders. Within this structure they assume the financial risks and decide on all orchestra matters democratically.
