HERBERT ENGE

Herbert Enge studied German philology (with a focus on theatre and the media), history, politics and education in Brunswick, Hamburg, and Vienna (Austria). While he was at university, he gained quite a bit of experience in dramaturgy and direction at different German-speaking theatres and worked with independent drama groups as well. After graduating from university, he completed the practical part of his training as a teacher for secondary schools.

Since 1986 he has been in charge of the education department of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, i.e. »Thalia Treffpunkt« and »Thalia und Schule«. He manages numerous workshops and drama groups and has created more than 50 productions of his own. Besides that, Herbert Enge, as the initiator of the »Jugendclub an Theatern« festival, commits himself to teaching classes at institutes of further education for teachers and at the university of Hamburg.
