MARK SLAVKIN

Mark Slavkin

Mark Slavkin has been the Vice President for Education at the Music Center of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County since 2001. There Slavkin directs a wide array of programs and services that help strengthen arts education in schools and communities across Los Angeles.

The Music Center is widely recognized as national leader for combining artistic excellence and high-impact teaching to advance arts education.  Slavkin leads a staff of twenty people with an annual budget of over $5 million. He also serves on the board of the »California Alliance for Arts Education«, supporting statewide advocacy and policy development for arts education.

From 1997-1999 he served as Los Angeles Program Officer for the »Getty Education Institute for the Arts«, a program of the J. Paul Getty Trust, where he utilized his advocacy and communications skills to help launch a renaissance for arts education in Los Angeles area schools. From 1989-1997 he served as an elected member of the Los Angeles Board of Education, including two years as President.
