For
young people the Tate galleries are a cultural and social venue in its
broadest sense. It is a location for seeing and interacting with art,
discussing its wider cultural context. The Young Tate programme is situated
within each Tate sites Learning Department’s Young Peoples Programme
and is facilitated by the Youth Programme Curator. It is a largely peer-led
programme stimulating the cultural and creative learning of young people
through access to modern, historic and contemporary art, gaining knowledge
and skills and developing career paths. Part of Young Tate is the Tate
Forum which is Tate Britain’s longstanding youth advisory group.
Young people can join after undertaking a week of training which enables
them to understand the systems, working methods and practice of Tate’s
organisation. Voluntary work from Tate Forum includes programming and
delivering public events like workshops, panel discussions and Meet The
Artist evening events which attract audience from 30 young people to 3,000.
Tate Forum also contributes to Press & Marketing campaigns aimed at
young people and the Young Tate Online project.

The displays at Tate Britain call on the greatest collection of British art in the world to present an unrivalled picture of the development of art in Britain.
