The
success of the first symposium »The Art of Music Education«
held in January 2008 has encouraged us to organise a second event. While
during the first symposium, the essential thing was making first contacts,
we are going to focus on one subject only this time. It was not an easy
decision for us to take: Music education of youths and young adults is
one of the greatest challenges concert halls can face. Jointly with the
Körber Foundation, I invite you to come and rub shoulders with 15-
to 25-year-olds, using your courage and imagination.
Yours Christoph Lieben-Seutter
General Director of Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle Hamburg
Two
years ago, with our first symposium, we ventured a look into the future:
»In what way will a concert hall need to change to respond to developments
in society?« That was one of the questions we asked then. Without
doubt the most extensive change of our society will be brought about by
those who are young people now. It is therefore essential, also for the
future Elbphilharmonie, to pay closer attention to this generation. Together
with you I am looking forward to a lively and inspiring exchange.
Yours Klaus Wehmeier
Deputy Chairman of the Körber Foundation
